Happy New Year!
Welcoming a New Season Together

Welcome to 2026!

We here at the Ruvvy Resilience Lab are so happy you are here. Thank you for diving into another year with us!
This year, we are looking forward to launching at least two new studies, growing our ongoing research, and getting more involved in our local Detroit community. We’re happy to be on this journey with you. If you know someone else who you think should be along for the ride, please forward them this newsletter and invite them to subscribe!
New Year Reflections
As the world starts a new orbit around the sun, we challenge ourselves to lean into resolutions, set goals and intentions, and make changes in our lives. We may also decide to dig deeper into something that has been enriching in our lives and that we want to continue building on.

My husband likes to think of life as a sine wave with a positive slope. It has its ups and downs, but overall it’s on an upward trajectory.
Personal Story
Dr. Ruvvy here! I’d like to share a personal story about annual themes. My husband, Sterling, has a ‘theme’ for every year. Sometimes the theme isn’t necessarily intended, but reflects a significant life event, like ‘the year of the move’ (for us, 2022, when we moved to Bethesda, MD for my postdoc at NIMH). Many times, the theme is intentionally set. His 2018 ‘year of saying yes’ brought Sterling to Detroit, and his ‘yes’ to joining yoga classes with me brought us closer together. When he set 2019 as ‘the year of the girlfriend’, his intention quickly manifested into reality, and here we are, married, seven years later (last year, 2025, was ‘the year of the marriage’ 😊 ).
I share this personal story to illustrate that sometimes life guides us where we need to go, even if we are not expecting or intending for what is in store. Having this flexibility is an aspect of resilience! I also share this story to show that whether you call it a goal, intention, resolution, or your annual theme, creating a vision for yourself and your year can help guide your actions and decision-making in a manner that sets you up for success.
Try It Yourself!
Email us at [email protected] and let us know how you are envisioning 2026 for yourself. We are here to cheer you on!
Thanks for listening to my story. I’d love to hear yours too. On this theme of sharing, our team has shared our goals, intentions, and resolutions for 2026 below!
