What is National Hispanic American Heritage Month? 

National Hispanic American Heritage Month is a national “tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society”.  

The Library of Congress, National Archives, Smithsonian Institution, and many other national entities are celebrating with special exhibitions. You can:

• Enjoy virtual exhibits

• Read stories of Latino achievements

• Take advantage of bilingual resources online through the National Museum of the American Latino! 

¿Qué es el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispanoamericana? 

El Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispanoamericana es un mes nacional de “homenaje a las generaciones de hispanoamericanos que han influido positivamente y enriquecido nuestra nación y nuestra sociedad.”.  

La Biblioteca del Congreso, los Archivos Nacionales, la Institución Smithsonian y muchas otras entidades nacionales lo celebran con exposiciones especiales. Puede disfrutar de exposiciones virtuales, leer historias sobre los logros de los latinos y aprovechar los recursos bilingües en línea a través de la Museo Nacional del Latino Americano! 

100 Inspiring Hispanic/Latinx Scientists in America 

We are inspired daily by our friend and colleague Mr. Luis Garcia Lopez, who conducted his Honors Thesis research with the R² Lab and continues to volunteer with us, every day!

We also wanted to share this feature on 100 inspiring Hispanic/Latinx Scientists in America.

When we see ourselves reflected in STEM careers, it makes a STEM career feel even more achievable. Representation matters! 

100 científicos Hispanos/Latinx inspiradores en Estados Unidos 

Nos inspira cada día nuestro amigo y colega Luis Alberto Garcia Lopez, quien realizó su tesis con honores con el Laboratorio R2 y sigue colaborando con nosotros como voluntario, ¡todos los días! También queríamos compartir esta publicación sobre 100 científicos Hispanos/Latinx inspiradores en Estados Unidos . Cuando nos vemos reflejados en las carreras CTIM (Ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas), estas nos parecen aún más accesibles. ¡La representación importa! 

As we are in the midst of graduate application season, one person who stands out to us is Dr. Arnaldo Diaz Vazquez. Dr. Vazquez is the Associate Dean at the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He developed research training programs for scholars in the biomedical sciences and has authored papers on first-generation college students, graduate school admissions, mentoring, and many other topics.  

Ahora que estamos en plena temporada de solicitudes de posgrado, una persona que nos llama la atención es Dr. Arnaldo Diaz Vazquez. Dr. Diaz Vazquez es vicedecano de la Facultad de Ciencias Biomédicas de la Universidad de Texas Southwestern. Ha desarrollado programas de formación en investigación para académicos en el ámbito de las ciencias biomédicas y es autor de artículos sobre estudiantes universitarios de primera generación, admisiones en escuelas de posgrado, tutorías y muchos otros temas.
